Happy New Year Edgewood faculty!
For those of you I have not met, my name is Sarah Stoehr and I am the Pre-College Programs Coordinator here at Edgewood. I am writing to you today to invite you to submit a proposal for our 2020 Edgewood Summer Scholars (ESS) Program. For those of you who are unaware, ESS is a pre-college program for current 5th and 6th graders in the Madison area, who will be in 6th and 7th grade respectively next year. During each week long program, students take courses taught by Edgewood College
faculty and are guided and mentored by current Edgewood students. There is a focus on college readiness skills that are woven in throughout the program and we end each week with a mini-graduation ceremony and celebration. We piloted the program last summer and it was a success! We had 36 soon-to-be 6th graders from local area public and private schools and this summer we'll be expanding to 6th
and 7th grade. Here is the website:
www.edgewood.edu/ess
Here are some logistics for this summer's program:
6TH GRADE:
July 6-10, 2020, 8 AM-4 PM each day on the Edgewood campus
4 courses/instructors needed
60 student spots available
7TH GRADE:
July 13-17, 2020, 8 AM-4 PM each day on the Edgewood campus
4 courses/instructors needed
60 student spots available
Each week, students will go to four classes (one each in the Arts, Humanities, Natural Science and Social Science) taught by Edgewood faculty. Faculty teach the same hour-long class four times each day and four small groups of 15 students or less rotate to each class, ensuring they interact with content in all four areas. This is a paid position that requires attendance at two training sessions before the program begins.
This is where you come in! If you are interested in teaching a course this summer, please submit a 1-page proposal to me (sstoehr@edgewood.edu) by Wednesday, February 5th EOD. In your proposal, please share how you envision your course and how you could incorporate college readiness skills (such as problem solving, organization, and collaboration) into the course. I plan to have courses/instructors selected by February 14th. Please keep in mind that this is a course designed for middle schoolers, whose interest and engagement often depends on their ability to interact with course content.
IMPORTANT: Once I have received your proposal, I will send you a confirmation email. If you do not receive a confirmation within 24 hours, please let me know ASAP as it means I have not received your proposal. Please let me know if you have any questions.
Thank you!
