Cybersecurity Advisory: "Follina" Updates Available!

Microsoft has released new Windows updates that address the recently discovered "Follina" vulnerability.

 

While Edgewood-owned devices are receiving these updates now, you should install all the latest updates available for your personal Windows devices right away, as the latest patches close the "Follina" vulnerability and will protect you against these attacks.

 

To install Windows updates, please follow the steps below to make sure you receive protections against "Follina".

 

For Edgewood-owned devices, please follow these steps:

  • In order to get the latest updates, your Edgewood-owned device need only be connected to the Internet. This can be done either from the Campus network, or on your home network.
  • Leave the device connected to the Internet and powered on.
  • After a little bit of time, you will start receiving the updates and will receive a prompt to restart your computer once ready for installation.
  • Restart your computer to apply the updates. You may need to restart multiple times for all the updates to apply.

For personal Windows devices (applies to both Windows 10 and Windows 11):

  • Click the Start Menu button.
  • Click on Settings.
  • In the window that opens, click on Windows Update.
  • Click on "Check for updates" button.
  • Allow the updates to install. Restart computer.
  • Depending on how many updates your device is missing, you may need to do these steps multiple times to be sure you receive and install all updates.
