Luke House Donations

High priority

In response to social distancing measures, the Luke House Community Meal Program is providing bag lunches instead of serving sit-down meals. Matt Rogge (the director of Luke House) has asked each volunteer group to donate the items for these lunches.

I have put together a SignUp Genius signup for food donations:

https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C0F4EA9AF23A6FB6-luke

We will need the following items:

  • White sandwich bread
  • Sandwich meat (turkey, ham, bologna, etc.)
  • Cheese slices
  • Fruit (apples, oranges, bananas)
  • Desserts (cookies or sturdy bars)
  • Packaged snack item (string cheese, chips, cereal bars, etc.)

In order to minimize our contact with others, and in light of the constraints on access to campus buildings, drop-off options are as follows:

  • Rachael Lancor has graciously offered her porch (741 Chapman Street…just off Monroe a bit west of campus) as a drop-off site…she’ll put out a bin. Please bring items before the end of the day on Friday, April 10 so that they can be transported to Luke House by Easter.
  • You can also drop off your items at Luke House (310 S. Ingersoll)…drop-off hours are Monday through Thursday, 9:00-12:30 and 3:00-6:30, or Sunday 3:00-6:30. If you drop your food off at Luke House directly, it would be best to do so before 4:00 or so on Sunday, April 12 (to allow time for assembling bags).

I think we can carry this off with a minimum of additional risk (particularly if people gather these items on their usual grocery run rather than making a special trip), but I completely understand that some of you might be unable to participate in this way or uneasy about doing so. Luke House will also, of course, accept monetary donations...checks can be mailed to Luke House directly (310 S. Ingersoll Street, Madison, 53703), or folks can donate online at http://lukehousemadison.org.

Please let me know if you have questions about this…thank you so much!
