Join us this summer for our: Fine Arts Exploration Camp
What?
This program is designed for the arts lover and the arts explorer in all of us. During this Fine Arts camp you will chose to “dive deep” into Art, Theatre, or Music all morning long. In the afternoon you can continue your work from the morning, or choose to explore another area.
Theatre: Onstage & Behind the Scenes: Explore your dramatic side
Students will learn to tell a theatrical story, gain character and acting skills, experiment with improvisation, dance to popular Broadway musicals, and learn the secrets of backstage stage craft!
Art: The ins- and out(door)s of Art: in the studio & outside at the easel
Through painting outdoors, drawing, and exploring visual art, students will have a chance to explore their creativity.
Music: "Listen Up!--Secrets Ways that Musicians Captivate Your Mind
Music is all around us, in commercials, video games, and at the movies. How do composers and performers capture your imagination and bring life to your everyday world? You will discover the secret tricks of composers who use music to add suspense to movies, convince you to buy products, and keep you listening to what they wrote! You will create your own digital music composition to take home and share with your family and friends. And of course, hear great performances and have a chance to ask live, professional musicians what it is like to do their job
Where?
The camp will be held on the Edgewood College Campus in our new Arts building: The Stream and in the beautiful natural areas that abound on our campus and offer continual inspiration.
When?
June 18-22, 2018, 9:00am – 4:00pm daily Lunch is NOT provided; please send a sack lunch with your child each day. A simple mid-morning and mid-afternoon snack will be provided.

Instructors for the camp are:
Bob Tarrell: Bob Tarrell, MA, MFA. Professor of Art. “I enjoy painting outdoors, or plein air painting. Every person carries in their heart an image of their homeland. For me, it is the Driftless landscape of southwestern Wisconsin. I’m drawn to the Wisconsin landscape because of its rivers, lakes, woods, rock outcropping, and fields.” Bob received the 1999 James Underkofler Excellence in Teaching Award, in 2003 was Wisconsin Art Educator of the Year, and in 2012 received the Mazzuchelli Medallion at Edgewood College.
Shad Wenzlaff: Shad Wenslaff , ABD, is a Senior Lecturer in Art History and Independent Piano Teacher. From 2007-09, Shad served as the President of the Madison Area Piano Teachers Associated. Dedicated to teaching students of all backgrounds and abilities, Shad also teaches voice within his private piano studio on Madison’s near- north side. Shad teaches courses on Eco-Design, History of Graphic Design, and Student Research at Edgewood College. Shad’s art installations feature sustainable design practice, multi-media, and are informed by his interest in textiles, video, sound, and live piano performance.
Susan Nanning-Sorenson: Susan Nanning-Sorenson is an Instructor at Edgewood College, specializing in Theatre Education. Her Directing credits include, among others: Little Women, Urine Town, Too Many Frogs, The Music Man, Fiddler on the Roof, Godspell, Brigadoon, The Miracle Worker, Children of Eden, Prelude to a Kiss and Hooked. Acting credits include: Rosie (The Wedding Singer), Sonia (Godspell), Desiree (A Little Night Music), Olivia (Twelfth Night), Margaret (Henry IV), Gertrude (Suessical the Musical) Old Woman (The Water Station) Tzeltal (Fiddler on the Roof). She has written over 45 children’s plays, Six Theatre for Young Audience plays, including the recently produced Stumped, and one musical, Dracula. Susan is also the Owner and Artistic Director for First Act Children’s Theatre, LLC in Madison, WI.
Aimee Hanyzewski: Aimee Hamyzewski is the Resident Lighting Designer at Edgewood College in Madison, WI. She has designed for Milwaukee Repertory Theater for over thirteen years for such hits as Black Pearl Sings, I love a Piano, The Devil’s Music: The Life and Times of Bessie Smith, Liberace, Debbie and Doyle, Ain’t Misbehavin’, Venus in Fur, The Year of Magically Thinking, A Christmas Carol and many others. Other theaters Aimee has designed for are Children’s Theatre of Charlotte, In Tandem Theatre, Next Act Theater, Forward Theater, Madison Savoyards Ltd, and The Legacy Theatre. Not only a lighting designer, in 2010, Aimee was nominated for a Jefferson Award in Chicago for her scenic design of Mice and Men for Oak Park Festival Theatre.
Dr. Jeanne Leep, PH.D.; Jeanne Leep is the producer of Edgewood College Theatre and the head of the acting and directing program in the Department of Theatre Arts at Edgewood College. She received her Ph.D. in directing from Wayne State University and her M.A. from the University of Michigan in theatre studies. She has also studied at the Moscow Art Theatre and the Royal Shakespeare Company. She is the author of Theatrical Improvisation, Short Form, Long Form, and Sketch-Based Improv. and the co-founder of River City Improv, a performance improvisational troupe based in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Some past directing credits include Metamorphoses, Our Town, The Arabian Nights, Love’s Labour’s Lost & The Penelopiad. A longtime member of the Association of Theatre in Higher Education, Dr. Leep serves as the Chair for the Acting Focus Group.
Christopher R. Dunham: Chris Dunham is the Associate Professor of Theatre Design and Technology and Technical Director for the Department of Theatre Arts at Edgewood College. He earned his BFA in Theatrical Design and Technology from UW-Stevens Point and his MFA in Scenic Design from Purdue University. In addition to his teaching and design work at Edgewood College he has collaborated with Forward Theatre Company, Children’s Theatre of Madison, Theatre Lila, and Four Seasons Theatre, among others including designs for Outside Mullingar, The Mojo and the Sayso, Anne of Green Gables, and A Christmas Carol.
Donna Peckett: Donna Peckett is a choreographer-actor, tap dancer and devoted arts educator, and is producing artistic director of TAPIT/new works Ensemble Theater, which she co-founded in 1985. She has performed in and co-produced 35 theater works, touring across the U.S., Canada, Mexico and abroad. She is a Kennedy Center Trained Teaching Artist through the Madison Overture Center. Donna has a BA in Art History from the UW-Madison. She studied briefly at the HB Studio in NYC, worked with the Bread and Puppet Theater, and studied with some of the greatest practitioners of American rhythm dance.
Audrey Lauren Wax: Audrey Wax is part of the Theatre Arts Faculty. She is an alumna of Edgewood College, and is thrilled to be working within the Diane Ballweg Theatre. Audrey has directed plays all over the Pacific Northwest as well as right here in Madison. She recently directed H.M.S. Pinafore, The Gondoliers, and Princess Ida for Madison Savoyards, Much Ado about Nothing for StageQ, Inc., and The Rail Splitter, Woods of Weaver, The Wedding Singer: The Musical Comedy, Almost, Maine, and Fuddy Meers for Edgewood College Theatre.
Nathan Wysock: Nathan Wysock is an active soloist, chamber musician and educator in the Madison area. He received Doctor of Musical Arts and Master of Music degrees from the Eastman School of Music and his Bachelor of Music degree from Illinois State University. He has been a featured performer on Wisconsin Public Radio’s ‘Live at the Chazen’, ‘The Midday’ and 'Higher Ground'. In his solo recitals Nathan creates innovative programs that range from ragtime to Bach to Piazzolla. He performs frequently with Wisconsin ensembles and organizations including Lawrence Chamber Players, Festival City Orchestra, Lawrence Wind Ensemble, Skylight Theater and L’Ensemble Portique. He has taught at the Eastman School of Music, Illinois State University and The Wisconsin Conservatory of Music. Nathan is currently on the faculty of Lawrence University in Appleton and Edgewood College in Madison and performs with Duo Penumbra.
Dr. Beatriz Aguilar: Dr. Aguilar is associate professor at Edgewood College, in Madison, WI, where she teaches courses related to general music education, early childhood music education, music and cultural identity, cross-cultural communication, and piano. Dr. Aguilar has a bachelor’s degree in piano performance from the National Autonomous University of Mexico. She received a MME and a PhD in music education from the University of North Texas, where she also specialized in early childhood music education and was a certified as Kodály music educator. Dr. Aguilar has presented at various conferences throughout the US and Mexico and has recently publishes the book and companion CD De tin marin: Mi canto, mis raices, a collection of authentic Latin-American children’s songs and rhymes, analyzed and organized by their musical and extra-musical content and cultural context.
Todd Hammes: Among the world of percussion, Todd Hammes is a singular individual. Through his music – a fascinating, eclectic blend of classical, world and improvisational styles – Todd presents to the world his own unique inner vision of sound and music. Todd’s work includes performances both domestically and abroad, extensive musical composition, teaching and outreach programs to groups large and small. He has trained with some of the world’s leading percussionists and is a life-long student of the percussive arts. In 2005, Todd was awarded a prestigious McKnight Visiting Composer Residency from the American Composer's Forum, which allowed him the opportunity to make music with people in assisted living situations. Todd has been studying Hindustani drumming with the late great Pandit Sharda Sahai since 1993 and became his ganda-band disciple in 1998. Todd holds a Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Arizona (1992) and a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the University of Wisconsin–Madison (2010).
