CHINA: TRADITION AND TRANSFORMATION
Visit historical and cultural sites, including the Great Wall, Forbidden City, Summer Palace, the Confucian, Buddhist, and Taoist temples, the terra cotta of the Qin Dynasty, the Tai Mountain, the Yangtze River, etc. Visit universities, business firms, villages, Chinese families, markets, museums, and government and non-government organizations.

Consists of two sections:
· A three-credit section on campus Spring Semester 2018
· A one-credit field study in China in Summer 2018
Course Description
A field study of contemporary Chinese history and society, the course will focus on interactions of Confucian values and the force of modernity. Topics include women, family structure, political expression, authoritarian rule, religious practice, Chinese villages, urban development, mass communication, economic system, foreign relations, popular culture, etc.
