Office 365 ATP Safe Links

Office 365 ATP Safe Links analyzes link(s) in an email at the time it is clicked to provide real time protection against phishing and malicious website, leading to one of the following two results:

  1. If the URL is deemed safe*, the website will open as normal.
  2. If the URL is deemed unsafe*, the website will be blocked a warning page will pop up:

Additionally, ATP Safe Links replaces the URL in the message with a placeholder containing safelinks.protection.outlook.com, which can be viewed by hovering over the link with the mouse pointer.

In a small category of emails, the URL in the body will be fully replaced by the Safe Links placeholder. This does not change the functionality of Safe Links or the destination website. It is just looks different.

*If you feel a website was incorrectly categorized, please contact TAC to have us further investigate the case.

NOTE: Regardless of the tool utilized, safe email habits must be practiced, including but not limited to:

  • Never give out login information over email or through a link in an email. Edgewood College ITSO will never ask for passwords.
  • Never open an attachment or click a link without exercising caution. Whenever feasible, verify with the sender that the email is legitimate and purposeful.
