Responding to Bias in the Classroom: Faculty Development Session

Conflict and Disruption in the Classroom:  How to Respond, Manage, and Report

Our Friday Leadership Series this year will focus on inclusive leadership. Many of us have faced difficult situations involving issues of diversity & inclusion. A student makes an inappropriate comment in the classroom. A colleague inadvertently offends a student. An advisee needs a place to live. How do we respond to these situations in the moment? How can we continue the conversation in the classroom?  How does reporting work? The goal of this year’s Friday Leadership Series will be to provide a space for these difficult conversations and learn some tools for how to respond in a meaningful way.

This first session will focus on tools to help us respond to incidents of bias in the classroom. Learn what reporting tools are available at Edgewood and how to structure a classroom conversation to unpack these incidents.

Facilitators: Heather Harbach & Matt Sullivan, Dean of Students Office
