New Campus Counselor/Advocate from the Rape Crisis Center

Edgewood College is pleased to have Annie Bruns as our new Campus Counselor/Advocate from the Rape Crisis Center. Annie is providing confidential support to Edgewood College students, staff, and faculty on Tuesdays and Fridays in Dominican 122. Read her bio below!

Hello! My name is Annie Bruns (she/her) and I am excited to be at Edgewood College as the Campus Counselor/Advocate from the Rape Crisis Center (RCC). I am originally from Madison but have spent the past many years living in various parts of the US and Latin America. I hold an M.A. in Latin American Studies from the Universidad Nacional de Cuyo in Argentina and Masters in Social Work from SUNY at Buffalo in New York. My work and research background is in sexual and reproductive justice & wellbeing and the ways in which these intersect with race/ethnicity, class, gender, and sexuality.

I am passionate about sharing resources and working collaboratively to ensure that students and staff of any gender, sexuality, or ethnic background are supported and nourished in their healing process. I believe sexual violence is a social justice issue, one that (in the words of Tarana Burke) needs to be addressed both through victim/survivor healing as well as community action.

My role as the campus counselor/advocate from RCC is to support students, faculty, and staff in healing from, and understanding, the complexities of trauma and sexual violence. I will be on Edgewood’s campus part-time, all day on Tuesdays and Fridays, in the Personal Counseling Services suite. I am able to provide individual counseling to those impacted by sexual violence and the support people in their lives. Advocacy services are also available for those interested. Please know that as I am not employed by Edgewood College I am able to provide confidential services to students, staff, or faculty. You can reach me at annie.bruns@thercc.org

To access counseling and advocacy services, call or stop by the Personal Counseling Services suite in Dominican 122 (608)-663-4148; or call the RCC’s 24-hour Helpline at (608) 251-7273. More information can be found at www.thercc.org
