Dec. 2 Presentation -- Seeing the Invisible One: Moses and the Limits of Humanity in Early Christianity

Seeing the Invisible One: Moses and the Limits of Humanity in Early Christianity

Presentation by Dr. Jared Calaway, Candidate for Assistant Professor of Biblical Studies

Wednesday, December 2, 11:00 am, Library Boardroom (All are welcome)

Moses, who encountered God on Sinai, represents the possibilities and limits of humanity in the overwhelming face of divinity.  But how did Moses encounter God?  In Exodus 33:20, God says to Moses that no one can see God's face and live, but in Numbers 12:8, God says that Moses beholds the very form of the LORD.  Did Moses see God or not?  If so, how did he do it? Could anyone else?  Who decides? This talk will explore how different ancient Christians answered these questions and how their answers impact what it means to be human.
