Edgewood Writing Contest (Poetry, Fiction, Essay) Submissions Due 3/29

Dear Creative Minds on Fire:

 

The 2024 Edgewood Undergraduate Writing Contest is Alive and Open for submissions! Send us your best Poetry, Fiction, and Essay/Journalism pieces! Here's the vital info! Please, read it carefully before submitting.

 

  • The deadline for submissions is Friday, March 29th at 11:59pm.


  • Our 2024 contest judge is Wisconsin Poet Laureate Nicholas Gulig. A Thai-American poet from Wisconsin, Nicholas Gulig was educated at the University of Montana (BA), the University of Iowa Writer's Workshop (MFA), and the University of Denver (PhD). He is the author of the poetry collections North of Order (YesYes Books), Book of Lake (CutBank), and Orient (Cleveland State University). An Assistant Professor at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, he currently resides in Fort Atkinson with his family.


  • Prizes will be awarded in three categories: Poetry, Fiction, & Essay/Journalism (see essential submission guidelines below. First prize in each category is $75. Second place in each category gets $50. Third place in each category gets $25 dollars.


  • Full-time & part-time Edgewood undergraduate students are eligible.


  • The contest is sponsored by the English Association and Lost/Found magazine.


  • Please, do NOT put your name on your submission. Instead, put your Edgewood Student ID number at the top of each page and submit your entry via email to afell@edgewood.edu in Word (doc or docx) format or PDF. The judge will receive submissions anonymously. For the Poetry category, you may enter up to three poems. Fiction and essay/journalism entries should be one piece or one excerpt from a larger piece, 20 pages or less, and must be double-spaced.


  • Winners will be emailed in advanced and then announced to the public at the Lost/Found Magazine Publication and Writing Contest Party on April 25th. Along with a reading from the judge, winners will be invited to read from their work at the party.
