AUDITIONS!! The Penelopiad by Margaret Atwood

Roles:  Flexible casting:  Almost all actors will play several roles thought the play.

Cast can range from 13-14 women and 5-6 men.  All types, genders, ethnicities, shapes and sizes welcome!  Open to all.

Rehearsals run from Sept 25-Nov 9 (not during fall break) and can flex based on actor schedules to some degree.

Tech rehearsal run: Nov 4-9 & 16

Performance: Nov 10, 1,, 17, 18

Play Description:

Who tells the story? 

Margret Atwood’s groundbreaking and proactive play retells the tale of Homer’s The Odyssey, through the lens of Odysseus’s long suffering wife, Penelope.  With characteristic a wry wit, Atwood recounts the plight of Penelope as she waits for husband to return—fending off hundreds of suitors as she and her handmaidens hold together the house Odysseys abandoned for his quest.  Upon his return, Odysseus inexplicably hangs Penelope’s twelve maids—a footnote in the original story, but the central event in Atwood’s retelling. 

Audition Preparation:  Cold readings, movement and improvisations.  Be ready to move a bit.
