Upcoming Space Improvements

Dear Students,

I’d like to take a few moments to update you on 1% list items that are on the horizon.  As a reminder, the 1% list is a result of the Credo Space Study and refers to projects and improvements that can be completed at a cost that may fit within a department operating budget.

A large group of faculty, staff and students worked on a design to update and improve the functionality of the Nona McGreal room.  You will see new carpet, furniture and wall features early in the New Year!  We are anxious to see the furniture, and to potentially purchase similar furniture to replace the aged furniture in the Predolin lobby.

The Gathering Space Subcommittee is also working on a design to freshen the space at the top of the Predolin stairs.  This is the wall space directly across from the OSII desk.  A fresh coat of paint and some new furniture will improve the functionality of the space and offer a new space for students to check their laptops or meet their friends.  It is a high traffic area and will become a highlight on student tours.

The Classrooms subcommittee is in the final stages of preparing a survey that will be distributed to faculty the week of December 10th.  We hope you will participate to help guide our future steps for classroom improvements.  We thank the Institutional Research office for their assistance with the survey.

The Front Door to Campus and Wayfinding Subcommittees have partnered to work on a campus wide Wayfinding Study.  Innerface Architectural Signage has completed their initial on-campus work at Monroe Street and Deming Way, and will present their report at the end of January.  We are very excited to see the results!

The Access to Lake Wingra Subcommittee has identified some things we can do to improve access to the boardwalk.  The boardwalk is now closed for the season, but in the spring we will be adding a handrail to the stairs and improving the grade of some areas, and adding signage in some areas.  Sarah Kreger, Landscape and Grounds Manager, is planning some volunteer events for the springtime that will be educational, and also help us to maintain the beautiful woodland area.  Stay tuned!

Thank you to all who participate in this work.  It would not be possible without your partnership!

Happy Holidays to all,

Susan VanderSanden
