Coronavirus Update/Info

Coronavirus Update from Health Services:

The 2019 Novel Coronavirus outbreak in China is of great concern to everyone. This is a new strain of virus that appeared in Wuhan, China, and is spreading through Asia with some cases now identified in the United States.

Symptoms of the virus include: cough, runny nose, sore throat, difficulty breathing and fever. In severe cases, complications can develop including pneumonia, especially for infants, older adults or those with other health conditions. There is little concern currently for contracting the virus unless an individual has been to China recently or has been exposed to someone who has the virus.

The best way to prevent infection is to avoid exposure to the virus. The CDC recommends avoiding travel to China.

The following steps are recommended by the CDC to prevent the spread of ANY respiratory virus, including coronavirus, and the current flu virus:

  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds or use an alcohol based sanitizer.
  • Avoid close contact with persons who have respiratory symptoms
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands
  • Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash
  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces

**Get a flu vaccine. While this will not protect you from the coronavirus, it will help with protection from the flu that is currently circulating on campus. Flu shots are available for FREE through Health Services. Call (608)663-8334 to schedule**
