Facilities Summer Project Update

While the campus remains full of life and activity throughout the summer with classes, professional development, events, and conferences, summer is the ideal time for Facilities Operations to complete remodels and upgrades to existing space with the least amount of disruption to faculty, staff and students.  Highlighted are a few projects accomplished this summer. Many were informed by the Credo study completed in 2016-17.

Chapel

The Chapel HVAC project is on time and on budget, with substantial completion on August 15th.   The project includes building a room on the west end of the Chapel to accommodate an air handling unit and add storage space, ductwork throughout the ceiling, lowering the ceiling grid, adding upgraded can lights, replacing carpet and a fresh coat of paint.  Two upgraded condensing units have been places on the exterior.  A new ramp was added for accessibility and ease in moving equipment into the space.

 Stream Kiln Ventilation

An independent ventilation system was added to vent the kilns.  We also replaced an aged kiln. This will enhance the building-wide exhaust system and also reduce noise throughout the facility.

 Edgedome

Numerous projects occurred in the Edgedome.  A coating was applied to the roof to extend its useful life approximately 10 years.  The Edgedome floor was sanded, stripped and refinished.  We also enhanced storage space for Athletics and replaced the flooring in the sports medicine and training room.

Sonderegger Fitness Center

Athletics initiated some enhancements to the existing fitness center and stretching room.  The existing fitness equipment was aged and one-dimensional (one use) and replaced with multi-dimensional equipment.  These are machines that allow several exercises on one piece of equipment.  On August 28th, please feel free to attend an open house from 4:30-6:30 or one on the 29th from noon until 2.

Marshall Hall

Marshall Hall kitchen was renovated to enhance the resident’s experience.  New appliances were added as well as a water bottle filler.  Furniture in two lounges was replaced – residents’ were enlisted in furniture selection.

 Predolin Lobby

New furniture was installed in Predolin Lobby.  Added seating areas will enhance the flow of the space.  The Predolin Benefactor Wall will also be enhanced as part of a project with Thysse Environmental Signage.

Cutting Edge Program Space

New programming and expansion of the current Cutting Edge Program required relocation of the Cutting Edge offices.  The department was relocated into an area appropriately sized for the staff and student population.  Staff now have much needed private offices essential to serving the Cutting Edge students, a conference room and reception / gathering space.  The program remains on the first level of DeRicci Hall, which is ideal for accessibility.

 Grounds

Pavers in the area around Predolin and DeRicci Hall were replaced with concrete.  This was necessary for safety and accessibility reasons.  During the winter these pavers collected moisture and froze. Paths were warping and becoming trip hazards in addition to being slippery in inclement weather.

Thank you for your patience and understanding as these projects were completed.  We will keep you up to date with any other upcoming Facilities projects via EC Today.
