Woodrow Street Construction

Dear Students:

This announcement is to inform you of upcoming work on Woodrow Street. The street will have a full sanitary sewer replacement from Monroe Street all the way to Lake Wingra.  Some areas of storm sewer will also be replaced, as well as water main.  This work will not impact traffic flow on Monroe Street.  The City expects this to be an approximate 3 month project, knowing that weather impact may alter that time.   It will likely begin in March/April 2017.  Tree pruning and removal began this week.

This is a list of potential impacts of this work:

  • The entire street will be closed – with the exception of people living along Woodrow Street.  This means that parking on Woodrow will not be available for a large portion of this work.  The Parking and Transportation Department will work directly with faculty/staff/students with accessibility issues that may need access to parking either behind DeRicci or the Stream.
  • The bike path will be closed as well, which may impact our biking community.
  • Necessary tree removal and pruning will take place.  Some pruning of oak trees is required, and they will work within the acceptable time frame to avoid potential infection with oak wilt.   There will be a neighborhood meeting and the City will inform them of this work.
  • There will be a substantial amount of work occurring to replace sanitary sewer close to Lake Wingra.  The City of Madison has worked with the Historical Society and DNR to acquire all necessary permissions.
  • Water outages will occur a minimum of two times.  The outage will be for 4 hours or less and the City is willing to work with us on timing.  The outages will occur in the first and final month of work.  48 hours-notice will be given.

Please contact me directly with any questions or concerns.

Thank you,
