Facilities Summer Projects

Dear Students,

 

I hope the last few weeks of the semester go very well!  We have been busy planning and coordinating several summer projects.

 

·         The Chapel will have HVAC enhancements that will begin at the end of May.  The work will improve the heat and also add air conditioning to the space.  Modifications to the system will result in aesthetic enhancements to the ceiling, lighting, carpet and also replace the existing ramp with an accessible ramp.  Substantial completion for the work will be August 15th. 

·         The Stream work will mainly occur in the Ceramics room.  We will be replacing an existing kiln and adding in an external exhaust system.  We anticipate this work to begin after July 1 and will be completed by July 30th.  We will also be replacing an air compressor in the Stream.  Both of these projects may require adjustments to the HVAC system, and will be coordinated with the building users. 

·         The Edgedome has various projects occurring this summer.  The roof will receive a treatment to extend its useful life.  We anticipate the work occurring in early June.  Additional modifications to storage areas will take place in addition to new flooring in the Athletic training room. 

·         West Regina Hall canopy roofs will be replaced.  This work may require sidewalk areas to be closed off.  We anticipate this work beginning in June, subject to changes due to weather.

·         Sonderegger stairwell closest to the Edgedome will have the railings sanded and painted, as well as a full replacement of the stairway treads.  This will occur June 1st through the 10th.  The stairwell closest to the parking ramp will be available for your use, as well as the elevator.  There will be one day the Sonderegger elevator will be unavailable in order to complete maintenance.  We are still working to plan the best timing for this.  There will also be a re-lamping project that will take place throughout the summer.   

·         Marshall Hall will have a kitchen remodel beginning on June 4th with anticipated completion by July 31st.  This will allow us to add in a water bottle filler, which residents have been very excited to hear!  We are also partnering with Residence Life to collect feedback on preferred layout of the lounges. New furniture will also arrive this summer, including new beds for the single rooms.   

·         Wingra Café Booth Reupholstering and Wood Treatments.  The booths will be repaired May 29th through June 1st. 

·         Dominican Hall repairs to heat pumps on 2nd floor will occur July 14-20. 

·         The Library will have a compressor replacement May29th – May 30th.

·         Weber Hall stair treads will be replaced one stairwell at a time.  Timing for this project is still being determined.

·         Washburn Room will have aged carpet and flooring replacement.  In addition to the flooring, new furniture be purchased this summer.    

·         Predolin and DeRicci will have various external enhancement. Pavers at the DeRicci parking lot entrance, the large square paver tiles at the CAC entrance and the curved walkway of brick pavers will be replaced.  We anticipate this work taking place between July 1st – 14th.   Different routes to the buildings will be available during replacement time.

·         Campus Wide Roadway / Parking Lot / Sidewalk Repairs Crack-filling and sidewalk grinding will occur throughout the summer on many of the campus roadways and sidewalks.

·         Parking Lot Striping repairs are planned for August 3rd and 4th with August 10th and 11th as back up dates. 

·         Landscape Improvements are a regular summer project.  A prairie garden will be added near the DeRicci gallery entrance.  This will be added to the existing garden.  The work will likely be a one-day project occurring around May 28-June 1st.   Lawn applications from Mother Earth Organics will occur throughout the summer, most likely for a day mid-month.

·         Edgewood College Drive Tree Replacements to replace some of the declining trees along the roadway are planned between May 29th – 30th, weather permitting.

·         Building Power Washing, Carpet Cleaning and Window Cleaning projects will take place throughout the summer.    

·         Painting will occur sporadically throughout the summer.

This communication is intended to provide you with an update based upon information available through today. Schedules for projects like these are often fluid. As well there may be additional projects that come up over the summer.
